Do You Know What's In Your Water?

6/25/2013

The Environmental Working Group found over 140 different contaminants in tap water (drinking and showering).

Studies reveal that this is what you can anticipate finding in your tap water:

  • prescription & over the counter drugs
  • antibiotics
  • anti-depressants
  • birth control pills
  • seizure medication
  • cancer treatment drugs
  • pain killers
  • tranquilizers
  • cholesterol drugs
  • and much much more....
Just because you might not taste anything out of sorts doesn't indicate that your water is not tainted. The standards for our tap water DO NOT meet the necessary requirements for preservation of human health.  Take action, do your research and make sure to properly filter your home water. Showering opens up the pores and allows toxins to pass as if it were an open door.  If you need any recommendations, I'll be happy to pass the results of my research onto you and your families. Drop me an email and I'll give you some resources.

Soy....Good or Bad?

6/21/2013

What can you learn from prison inmates?

Here's a story about the Illinois prison inmates and their consumption of a high soy diet.  In 2002, the governor of Illinois determined that it would be a great cost savings to the state to lower the cost of food in the prison system. So in 2003, inmates began consuming a diet high in processed soy protein as a replacement for meat. Up to 60-70 percent of the protein from every meal came from soy.

These prisoners began to experience the following symptoms:
  • chronic and painful constipation alternating with diarrhea
  • vomiting after eating
  • sharp digestive pains
  • heart palpitations
  • rashes
  • acne
  • insomnia
  • panic attacks
  • depression
  • hypothyroidism
  • brain fog
  • fatigue
  • weight gain
  • frequent infections
  • infertility (after being released)

To this day, the FDA continues to assert that soy is a healthy food, yet, there are numerous scientific studies that show the adverse health effects of soy when consumed.

In addition:

The same FDA that is making these soy health claims has over 288 studies regarding the toxicity of soy filed under their “FDA Poisonous Plant Database”.

What conclusions about soy and it’s place in the diet would you make?

Cholesterol Benefits, Be Wary of Statin Drugs...

6/18/2013

The Benefits of Cholesterol
  • Carries vitamins through the blood stream and into the tissues.
  • Allows the brain to form nerve synapses. Lack of synapse formation leads to brain dysfunction, brain fog, memory issues, and much more.
  • Cholesterol produces sex steroid hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, all are essential.
  • Cholesterol helps fight infections (virus and bacterial).
  • It is essential to form Vitamin D.
  • Low levels can contribute to muscle loss and weakness
  • Cholesterol forms the nutrient CoQ10 which is necessary for the body to produce energy.

Many doctors are focused on evaluating and lowering cholesterol through chemical means.  It has been shown that lowering cholesterol has not worked to reduce death through heart disease. Statins are the most common drug that doctors use to lower cholesterol, however, Statins have the following effects:

  • muscle loss
  • muscle pain
  • nutritional deficiencies
  • liver damage

Try this more sensible approach:

  • a diet devoid of refined carbohydrates
  • consume whole type of foods
  • get on a regular exercise program
  • get your daily dose of Vitamin D

8 Ways To Get & Stay Sick

6/16/2013

1. Eat Processed Foods-high in calories and low in nutrients which encourage nutritional deficiencies.
2. Eating "gluten free" foods- most of these foods are not truly free of gluten, just certain types of gluten. They are highly processed as well and do nothing to enhance your health.
3. Eating GMO (genetialy modified food)- these foods are not recognized by our body nor are they nutritious. They exert stress on the liver and kidneys and stir chronic inflammation in the body.
4. Lack of Exercise- it's critical to move which increases circulation and has an impact on the immune system; it's also critical to maintain muscle mass as we age.
5. Going to bed late- proper rest leads to improve hormonal regulation and impacts how well we heal.
6. Not getting enough sunshine- sunshine is essential and critical (sunburns are not). Sunlight activates hormones and Vit D production. Lack of sunshine has been linked to over 18 different types of cancer.
7. Consuming/bathing in unfiltered water- there are prescription medications in the tap water, amongst a variety of other chemicals!  That means you are exposed to consuming artificial estrogens and even antidepressants when not filtering your water.
8. Prolonged medication exposure- this acts to destroy the lining of the intestines which also affects the population of bacteria (friendly) that live there.  Once the lining is destroyed, multiple health issues can get triggered to develop.

How Can Gluten Damage You?

6/12/2013

Gluten has been shown to affect people in different ways: Some of the more commonly known mechanisms are listed below:

  1.  Immune reaction – People make antibodies to gluten that subsequently cause inflammation and tissue damage which leads to autoimmune reactions and disease.
  2. Intestinal permeability – gluten disrupts the gut barrier causes leaky gut.
  3. Digestive distress – gluten digestion is resistant by nature.  This leads to changes in bacteria, gut dysbiosis, as well as increased risk for infections.  This leads to damage to the mucosal lining of the gut, creating a permeable opening.
  4. Maldigestion and Malabsorption – This process can cause numerous problems including vitamin and mineral deficiencies, anemia, weight loss, failure to heal, hormone imbalance, and many more.
Try a 30 day challenge and remove all grains from your diet. Stick with whole type foods only, hormone, antibiotic, pesticide free.  Watch what happens to your energy, skin, sleep quality and overall health.

Is Your Gastrointestinal System Leaky?

6/11/2013

Researchers at the University of Maryland discovered that grains/gluten can directly cause a phenomenon known as intestinal permeability.  This process literally corrodes the lining of the gut and has been shown to induce the development of multiple food allergies; this is usually followed by a hyper responsive immune system contributing to autoimmune disease. Right behind your gut wall is a tissue referred to as GALT (Gastro Associated Lymphoid Tissue).  Research shows that approximately 70-80% of your immune cells live here.  Once this permeable or leaky gut develops, the flood gates literally open up and the GALT is bombarded with bacteria and other microorganisms, food proteins, and intestinal toxins.  Over time this immune system activation can lead to inflammatory damage not only in the intestine, but in many of the other tissues of the body.

How To Address This Problem?
Step one is to calm the inflammation down so that you start to heal and feel better.  One of the quickest and most direct ways to calm the inflammation is to get the body to recognize different strains of grains/ gluten. How?  Through our digital laser treatments, we re-pattern the body with gluten frequencies so that that a positive relationship can re-establish between your body and food.  This  process allows people to not only get relief, it also allows them to be resistant to future inflammatory episodes when coming into contact with gluten based foods!

Why Most Low Thyroid Cases Never Truly Improve

6/9/2013

Autoimmune attack (Hashimoto's Thyroiditis) is a common cause of low thyroid symptoms, especially in women. When this exists, then day by day, your immune system is destroying more of the thyroid gland.

Every minute that passes without dealing with the underlying cause of this problem is going to cause more misery for the low thyroid sufferer. Replacement hormones do nothing to address this critical immune system issue.

I see patients suffering, going from doctor to doctor, looking for the newest, replacement hormone or medication. However, this will never pay off, because it's an immune system problem that makes the thyroid go haywire....and it continues to get worse each day, week and month!

Through our proprietary full body reactive scanning, we can pinpoint the underlying core issues causing the immune system dysfunction; we then use sophisticated strategies to put the brakes on the immune system attack and bring it to a halt! Once this is accomplished, we can then start to reverse the effects and help to rebuild a stronger more competent system.

A great way to support the thyroid, liver and immune system is by drinking the following cocktail 2x/day on an empty stomach:
2 oz unsweetened organic cranberry juice
1 oz raw unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar
6 oz of clean water
This power-packed 9 oz drink acts to remove impurities in the body, reduce inflammation, support liver function.  Give it a try and see what it does for you in a matter of a few short days!

9 Reasons To Avoid Processed Dairy

6/8/2013

  • Lactose in dairy is hard to digest for humans over three years of age.  We go through a genetic down regulation in the production of this enzyme as a natural part of aging.
  • The majority of dairy sold in the U.S. is genetically modified and loaded with hormones.
  • The cows that produce the milk are not pastured, they are gluten fed.
  • Products are pasteurized.  This denatures proteins and damages the other immune boosting properties of milk.
  • Fat is removed.  Skim milk is toxic.  Fat is not unhealthy.  Unhealthy fat is.  The difference is in how the animal is fed.  In the case of the cow – grains are the primary staple.  Fat derived from grain is highly inflammatory thus promoting and perpetuating chronic disease.
  • Most dairy products contain thickening agents made with grains.
  • Many products contain added sugar or artificial sweeteners and flavors.  These chemicals are not conducive to good health.
  • One of the main proteins in GMO dairy, casein, has been shown to contribute to autoimmune diseases of the skin including eczema and psoriasis.  This same protein in strikingly similar in structure to gluten.
  • Clinically speaking, people who go gluten free/dairy free typically have faster recovery of illness than those only going gluten free.

If you want dairy in your gluten free diet remember that you should only buy from a grass fed source.  Regular grocery stores  carry products that are derived from cattle that are grain fed and contain hormones.  Remember that  organic on dairy means that the cow was fed organic grain and this is not what you want when avoiding gluten.
Grass fed dairy can be found at a local farmer’s market.  It's worth the extra step!

Bee Pollen

Bee pollen is one of my favorite supplements. Why? Various foods have been touted as "perfect," but the one food that deserves this distinction is rarely mentioned. It's a fact, you could live on bee pollen and not suffer from malnutrition. Studies from all over the world indicate that the pollen collected by bees from the stamen of flowers is worth its weight in gold. Bee pollen contains 22 amino acids (and higher amounts of the eight essential ones than most high-protein foods), 27 mineral salts, the full range of vitamins, hormones, carbohydrates, and more than 5,000 enzymes and coenzymes necessary for digestion and healing. A bonus..... there is also an indication that using locally collected pollen will help with hay fever and other allergies.
